Case Study: PHD Trade Show, Las Vegas |
| |
BIG SHOW PRODUCTIONS bid and won the contract to produce the PHD Exhibit booth (20’ x 30’) at OmniCom in Las Vegas. The goal was to provide innovative new technology that resonated with PHD's creative vision and needs while fitting within the budget parameters. Following is a case study of how BIG SHOW turned around production of that booth in a matter of WEEKS – and how the client was satisfied with our work.
On April 11, we learned that BIG SHOW was awarded the PHD contract. The event install was scheduled for May 4, 2008, at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas – giving BIG SHOW less than one month to design and execute this project! So how did we do that on such short notice and still meet our high standards?
Our solution was Versa® Tube – a LED (low energy consumption) fixture system that delivers a vibrant display of light and image completely customizable to any needs. Using Versa® Tube, BIG SHOW created a wall that was 16 feet high and 30 feet wide and arranged vertically rather than the more typical horizontal fashion. Custom graphics were used on the wall to give PHD a unique and impactful presence and identity at the show. We also hung three plasma screens in front of the wall so attendees could view videos showcasing PHD's content.
In addition to creating the Versa® Tube wall, BIG SHOW worked closely with PHD creative visionary, Joel Hladecek, to develop the booth and to make his vision come alive. This included outfitting the space with modern white leather benches, LED accent lighting, directional audio, a computer demo station, deep purple carpeting, a hard-set Velcro wall to showcase graphic elements, and lastly a wheat grass trough to add an organic element.
BIG SHOW worked closely and collaboratively with PHD each step of the way. For example, during the planning process and to convey all the elements, we provided a detailed Creative Brief and full 3-D rendered drawings of the space for client review and feedback. And at show time, the BIG SHOW team arrived on site to install and supervise the running of the booth throughout the week.
According to our PHD contact, Elena Lipkins:
"I cannot say enough about BIG SHOW PRODUCTIONS (BSP)! We had an incredible experience working with BSP from start to finish. Their approach was friendly and extremely professional. They guided us through the creative process, all the while listening intently to my client’s vision and purpose. BSP initiated a proposal with cutting edge technology that would meet our creative and budgetary needs – and that was just the beginning. They worked tirelessly to meet our expectations and deadlines and ran the program with the same detail and perfection. Their ability to trouble shoot and to improvise, with a solution oriented approach, showed a true depth of experience. I really cannot wait for the opportunity to work with BSP again!"

Water, water: In California it’s not everywhere. How can you conserve water at your events and help make a difference?
|
| |
At BIG SHOW we have been helping our clients become socially responsible and environmentally conscious too! We provide a complete assessment of your venue and work with the facility to ensure they align with your goals for greening your events – from conserving water to waste diversion to everything compostable in between. As you’ve probably heard, California's water crisis intensified recently. The rainy season ended over a month early, our water reserves are far below needed levels, and the summer and fall months are destined to be some of the driest on record. Because of this, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger just declared the first statewide drought in 17 years.
So how can you help conserve this much needed and irreplaceable resource when planning your events? Even if you’re not setting up fountains and swimming pools, every little bit of conservation helps in these challenging times.
Did you know?
- San Francisco tap water is already considered to be some of the highest quality, best tasting and cheapest water in the world.
- For the price of one gallon of bottled water, consumers can buy AT LEAST 1000 gallons of SF tap water. That saves you the environmental cost of trucking, shipping and disposing into landfills all those plastic bottles made from petroleum based products!
- Even SF Mayor Gavin Newsom has gotten on the conservation band wagon and banned plastic water bottles from city offices, instead encouraging everyone to get their water from the tap.
Here are some simple steps that we take to help conserve water when planning events:
Select venues that already conserve water
- See if their bathrooms are equipped with motion-activated faucets. These faucets operate on a motion-controlled water output, so a user cannot simply let them “run.” Such control reduces water output/usage by almost 70% compared to a regular faucet! That’s a lot of water when you think of a large scale event!
- See if their bathrooms are equipped with dual-flush toilets. These toilets have two choices for flushing – one that uses 0.8 gallons of water for non-solid waste and one that uses 1.6 gallons of water for solid waste. Did you know that the traditional toilet uses 2.9 gallons in a single flush? So dual-flush toilets save up to 67% in water with each flush! This style is very common throughout the rest of the world but is just making their U.S. debut in newer venues/facilities.
Make it easy to go without bottled water
- Provide recycled, renewable and – of course – refillable water bottles to your attendees at your next event. Don’t worry; they can still be branded with your company logo. Throughout your venue, scatter water stations equipped with large capacity containers for refilling the bottles. It’s more cost effective too!
